Theme app blocks + checkout extensions
Quick Widgets bundles a cart progress bar, custom input fields and a paid add-on service into a single Shopify app. Turn on the ones you want, then drop them onto a page in the theme editor.
Quick Widgets is not on the Shopify App Store yet, so the link above goes to XCO Agency's published apps. Page blocks need an Online Store 2.0 theme; the checkout versions of these widgets need Shopify Plus.
The catalogue
Each one ships as a theme app block for the storefront and, where Shopify allows it, a checkout block as well.
Show shoppers how far they are from free shipping or a reward. Set up to three target amounts, write the message for each one with an {amount} placeholder, and add a message for when everything is unlocked. Bar colour, card background, border, corner radius, font size and alignment are all theme-editor settings.
Collect the extra detail an order needs — a delivery note, an engraving, a purchase-order number. The storefront field can be text, textarea, dropdown, checkbox, date or file upload, with a required toggle, placeholder, default value and an optional tooltip. The checkout version covers text, checkbox and dropdown.
Sell a paid add-on such as priority processing or gift packaging. On the storefront the widget creates and completes a Shopify draft order, so the charge lands in your admin as a real order. In checkout it adds a product variant you nominate to the cart, priced as a percentage of the cart total.
A single Quick Widgets app embed powers every block. If it is off, each block tells you so inside the theme editor instead of failing silently on your live storefront.

Setup
No developer, no theme file edits.
The app opens inside your Shopify admin. The widget catalogue is the first thing you see.
In the theme editor, open Theme settings → App embeds, switch Quick Widgets on and save. The app checks this for you and tells you if it is still off.
Pick one from the catalogue and toggle it on. The free plan keeps one widget active at a time; Pro lifts the limit.
In the theme editor choose Add block → Apps → Quick Widgets on the page you are editing, then set it up there. Checkout blocks are added the same way in the checkout editor.
In practice
A free-shipping bar on the cart drawer with a second target above it, so the shopper who has already cleared the first one still has a reason to add another item.
A required field on the product page for the engraving text, the delivery date or the school name, captured before the order exists rather than over email afterwards.
Rush handling, gift wrapping or assembly, offered as a paid option and recorded as a Shopify order you can report on like any other.
Because everything is an app block, you can add and configure widgets on a duplicated theme and publish only once the layout looks right.

FAQ
Two things have to be on. First the app embed: in the theme editor go to Theme settings → App embeds, switch Quick Widgets on and save. Then, on the page you want the widget on, choose Add block → Apps and pick the Quick Widgets block. If you add a block while the embed is still off, the block shows a warning inside the theme editor so you find out there rather than on your live store.
The storefront versions work on any Shopify plan with an Online Store 2.0 theme. The checkout versions render on the checkout steps, and Shopify only allows extensions there on Shopify Plus. If you are not on Plus, use the theme blocks — the progress bar and the custom field both have one.
The free plan lets you run one widget at a time, with every setting that widget has. Pro is $4.99 a month and removes the limit, so you can have the progress bar, the custom fields and the paid service widget all live at once. Nothing is held back from the free plan except the count.
App embeds and app blocks are an Online Store 2.0 feature. On a theme that does not support them, Shopify will refuse to add the block and you will see an error about sections and blocks not being supported. The fix is a newer theme; get in touch if you need help moving.
On the storefront it creates a Shopify draft order for the service and completes it, so the charge becomes an ordinary order in your admin with the usual reporting and payout. In checkout it adds a product variant you choose to the cart at a percentage of the cart total, so it is paid for as part of the same checkout.
The widgets are Shopify app blocks and checkout UI extensions, so Shopify loads them as part of the page and only on the pages where you have actually added a block. There is no snippet to paste into your theme and nothing loading on pages that do not use a widget.
Your session and widget activations are removed. Any blocks you added stay in your theme until you take them out in the theme editor, where they simply stop rendering. Orders the charge-for-service widget created are ordinary Shopify orders and are untouched.
Install Quick Widgets, switch on the app embed, and have a progress bar live before your next coffee.
